Robert Leach. Bob is a retired Orthopedic Surgeon who has been climbing with Acadia Mountain Guides since 1994. He has joined us on climbs to Red Rocks, Nevada, Rocky Mountain National Park, Joshua Tree, Cathedral Cliffs and Rumney in New Hampshire, Acadia National Park, and several other crags around the country.

A few of the many organizations that have selected Acadia Mountain Guides:

Paramount Pictures selected Acadia Mountain Guides to provide technical safety rigging and a stunt climber in the production of the movie Shutter Island - filmed partly at Otter Cliff in Acadia. If you climb here you may be on the same rock.

The California Department of Transportationselected AMG owner Jon Tierney to develop and teach a pilot course for their instructors who teach personnel to do road scaling and geo technical work on steep slopes and cliffs along highways. Jon will be presenting this curriculum at the national geo-technical symposium in 2013.

The Princeton University Outdoor Action Program, one of the leading university outdoor programs in the U.S. chooses Acadia Mountain Guides to train their climbing instructional staff. Each year we travel to NJ to provide a PCIA Single Pitch Climbing Instructor course/exam and a PCIA Climbing Wall Instructor Course.

Acadia Mountain Guides Climbing School regularly provides an advanced rescue training session to Acadia National Park Rangers and MDI Search and Rescue personnel. In 2012 AMG guides assisted on several challenging rescues within Acadia National Park.

Every two-three years we return to Japan to provide climbing instructor and wilderness medical training to the US Navy in Yokosuka.

The Maine National Guard recently selected us to provide instructor training to their cadre of climbing instructors.

REI (Recreational Equipment Inc) chose AMG to oversee climbing site safety during production of a climbing video and photography for a recent catalog.

In February of 2012 we spent a day ice climbing with Maine outdoor personality Bill Green. Check out the video on Bill's Green Outdoors. Back in 2007, Bill spent a day rock climbing with us in Acadia. We are still trying to get hold of that video.

Acadia Mountain Guides was selected to organize the set up and operation of the ropes portion of Untamed New England Adventure Race on June 20-23rd over Grand Falls on the Dead River. Over 200 participants rappelled, paddled, ascended and and completed a 300' rope traverse as part of the 200+ mile 3 - 4 day human powered racing journey across remote Maine. The Untamed NE race was a qualifier for the upcoming adventure racing world championships and was won by the current world champions - Team Thule of Sweden. Congratulations to all who stepped across the starting line.

For the past several years, AMG has been selected to work with Teens to Trails, a Maine based consortium of high school outing clubs, to sponsor a climbing experience for high school students across Maine each October.

Over the winter AMG provided several field training courses in mountaineering, avalanche awareness and ice climbing to leaders of collegiate outdoor programs such as Dartmouth, Colby, Bates, and MIT.

For the fifth year in a row, AMG was selected by the Association for Outdoor Education and Recreation to provide professional climbing instructor training courses and skill clinics at the 2012 International Conference.

Acadia Mountain Guides Climbing School is the preeminent leader in climbing instruction and guiding in Acadia and across Maine. We specialize in designing customized experiences or training for you, your family or your group.

Directed by internationally recognized IFMGA guide Jon Tierney who has been climbing in Acadia since 1982. Jon has over 30 years of local and worldwide experience. The IFMGA requires full AMGA certification as a rock, alpine and ski mountaineering guide.

All AMGCS instructors are certified by either the AMGA or the PCIA and all guides have been trained or certified by the AMGA.

• Since 1994 •
AMGCS is one of 30 AMGA accredited programs in the US and was one of the earliest to achieve accreditation.

AMGCS is the only climbing school in Maine to remain continuously accredited by the AMGA for eighteen years - several years longer than any other local service. We have had one or more full time AMGA certified rock instructors or rock guides on staff each year since 1994 - sixteen years more than any other local school.

• Since 2007 •
AMGCS has the distinction of also being accredited to the highest standards of the Professional Climbing Instructors Association. The PCIA requires all staff to be individually trained and certified.

"I've been climbing quite a while and learned many new skills. The more I learned, the more I wanted to learn. A great experience." -Brett Eyben, Leavenworth

"A very good day. Our guide was able to read our ability level and help us do as much as was possible and we were comfortable with." -Steve

"I knew it would be good to take the class but I had no idea of the level of expertise I would have the benefit of. The knowledge, experience, and attitude of the instructor was tremendous." -Avalanche I Course Participant

"It is apparent to me that your knowledge, experience and judgment justify the rather high degree of confidence which a student of the arts you teach must have in his/her instructor. You can be sure that if anyone asks, I would give a high recommendation." -Jon Hunnington
